HOW TO THROW A 50 SHADES OF GREY BACHELORETTE PARTY

A few weeks ago I got to throw my BFF Kimmy a bachelorette party! I decided to make the theme 50 Shades of Grey, since she's obsessed with the books. (Side note: When your boss asks what you're doing this weekend, don't say throwing your BFF a 50 Shades of Grey themed bachelorette party. You may enter into an awkward conversation where your boss proceeds to ask what 50 Shades of Grey is.) As soon as I started Googling and Pinteresting, I found that 50 Shades is a pretty popular theme for parties, especially bachelorettes. And rightly so; the sexy vibe just lends itself so well to a fun girls night. I gathered tons of ideas online, threw in some of my own, and the result was an awesome bachelorette party that Kim and the rest of the girls loved. If you're looking to throw a 50 Shades party yourself, here are some fun party ideas!

THE PARTY FAVORS

I put together 50 Shades themed party favors for all the girls that included nail polish with fun names like "Temptation Carnation," handcuff bracelets, light up rings, and necklaces and keychains with 50 Shades charms. Etsy was my best friend here, and you can find the Etsy shops  where I found these little trinkets in the links below. 

THE FOOD & DRINKS

In keeping with the sexy theme, the wine that was served was Menage a Trois, Flirt, and Allure. I've gotta say, it's pretty fun going to Safeway and roaming their wine aisles looking only for labels with sexy names. But it is a little awkward to explain when a Safeway employee asks if you need help finding anything.

For food, we served Hum-ASS, Hot Balls, Arti-CHOKE dip, Soft (limit) Sugar Cookies, and Vanilla Chocolate Sex.

For decor, we went to a thrift shop and bought a bunch of grey ties to have strewn about. And of course there is the lovely added touch of penis straws in a mason jar. #keepingitclassy

PHOTO BOOTH

I love setting up a photo booth for parties (you can see a NYE one I did here and a Christmas one here) because they're cheap and easy and provide hours of entertainment. And you'll have awesome photos to look back at years later. For this photo booth, I bought a couple packs of silver metallic streamer wall decorations from Party City, and a few tissue pom-poms to hang from the ceiling. The props are a mix of Party City and Etsy.

We set up a camera with a flash on a tripod and had a blast. Since Nicole is a photographer we were able to use her professional equipment, but any decent camera with a good flash (preferably an external flash if you're using a DSLR) will do. A remote would also be helpful, but the self-timer mode works as well.

THE GAMES

Gotta have games at a bachelorette party! The first game was a list of bachelorette party "challenges" where each challenge was assigned a point value. The person at the end of the night with the most points won a goodie bag full of beauty products. We got a guy to serenade the bachelorette, girls were doing cartwheels in the street, and a veil may or may not have been made out of toilet paper and worn  at the bar.

Bluebirds continued

We have been moving right along….and I realise that I did not post the completed Blue Birds painting. Here it is, turned out fab and I really love it !  Always & Forever Bluebirds, oil on canvas, Feb 2014.  Shown here in our shop Valentines & early Feb window display.

And it would become a gift, except turns out it is a bit too large to carry in a checked bag, even in large suitcase.  A few cm too big in both dimensions.  In May I have a trip to get out and about, and among other things meet a new grand-daughter.  My daughter Karen and her partner Mike expect her arrival any day now (literally !)  Karen really liked the BlueBirds painting (and earlier did ask if I would do a painting for the baby's nursery) and so I have started a second one, this one on a slightly smaller canvas that I know fits in the suitcase I will take along.  So, Bluebirds 2 .

I am really enjoying the painting in the studio to be.  Ian's fingers have healed and in mid-February he started back on construction work to enclose and finish the space.  Its such a nice area, great light and now all four windows are in place.  Plus a new beam for the back door, the one that leads up steps to the clothes line (a good ole Hills Hoist, an aussie icon !).  And he recently put in the new door too (it isn't painted yet, that minty green door you see is it).

I do have to share the workbench (my workbench !) with tools and all manner of bits and pieces used for work on the enclosure during the week.  I can honestly say, it takes more time to set up, and then pack up/put away as I spend on the painting session each Sunday.  I will love it when done, because I will be able to have some painting things out (neatly.  kind of.  maybe !) and will not have to put away and set up every painting session.    source :bluekoistudio.blogspot.

Los hijos. Educando hoy para un mañana mejor

Educar desde que son niños para ver los frutos cuando son grandes.

Mañana no hay clase por ende puede dormir en la cama conmigo, pero la regla es que duerma en su cuarto. En un principio dormía siempre conmigo por falta de espacio, superado esto, costo mucho que durmiera solo.¿Sería por miedo?¿De quien? ¿Del niño? ¿De la mamá? ¿De ambos?Desde mi punto de vista, el mayor miedo es el de la Mamá.Una explicación podría ser un pensamiento como el siguiente: si el niño logra dormir solo seguramente signifique que: “ ya no me necesite tanto”. Lo cual puede ser real y sano. Muchas personas en este acaso hablamos de las mamás necesitan ser necesitadas por otro para sentirse útiles y ponen allí su valía como personas. Su valía o sea su valor personal no puede quitárselo nadie, y Ud.  Misma será quien se lo otorgue cuando permita crecer a quien esta a su lado en este caso a su Hijo.Pensando en el futuro de sus hijos, empiecen a actuar hoy. En mi casa por ejemplo estaba mi hijo y tres compañeritos más del colegio. ¨Una locura¨ dirán algunos. ¨Qué relajo¨, dirán otros.No es una locura, es algo agradable para todos, que mejora el vínculo del niño con su entorno, tanto con sus pares, como con su familia.En el caso de los adolescentes es crucial que traigan a sus amigos a casa para  saber: ¿con quien salen?, ¿donde van?, ¿en que andan?En las consultas de padres, aconsejo a estos a fomentar que los amigos de los hijos vayan a la casa para así conocerlos. Esto es en todas las edades.Hablamos también la posibilidad de permitir que los chicos vayan a la casa de su novio/a. El gran temor, de los padres son las relaciones sexuales. Si los chicos deciden tener relaciones sexuales es mejor que lo hagan en casa. Y no, de parado en el Parque Rodó, en el auto alguno de los padres, baño público u otro lugar. Ya que al no tener donde ir estas son las alternativas que les quedan para estar juntos y hoy por hoy sabemos lo peligroso que esto puede resultar, como el llegar a ser espiados por alguna persona, robados, etc. Es mejor saber donde están y con quien están. Acaso: ¿no dormirán más tranquilos sabiendo que están en casa?¡Ojo! No es solo que vengan a casa. Hay reglas de puerta abierta o cerrada, de horarios, de comer en familia y no con el palto en el cuarto, aprovechando la cena para hablar sin tv , sin celulares y dejando venir a ese chico o chica ya que los padres desde pequeños han fomentado el diálogo y lo han tendido desde siempre. Han enseñando a sus hijos a cuidarse y a cuidar al otro. Ya han hablado de sexo, de qué manera se previene un embarazo, las enfermedades de transmisión sexual, el saber quererse y decir NO, y hacerlo solo cuando se este preparado/a. Con todo esto en mi cabeza y un hijo de 5 años, pensé: ¿Como hago para que a los 15 venga con sus amigos a casa? ¿Cómo?La respuesta es una sola: Invitándolos ahora. Empezando a compartir desde chicos.O esperan que su hijo o hija tenga 15 años y llamarlo a la mesa y decirle ¨papá y mamá te quieren hablar de sexo y saber con: ¿quién salís….?¨Padres: a esa edad ya no se puede, el trabajo o el placer ya que fue un placer recibir a estos chicos en casa, empieza ahora o más bien ayer.Los niños se sienten cómodos en su casa hoy y esto los habilitará a que mañana puedan traer a los amigos a casa. Le permite ver a ustedes cómo se comportan entre sí estos chicos y ver incluso como muchas veces en estos pequeños grupos, se forma un grupito hostigador y un hostigado. Actúen si ven que esto pasa, no lo dejen pasar. Tranquilos, sin gritos, pero hagan que incluyan a ese niño en el juego, si es necesario quite el juego, no se le quite a uno sino a todos. En general el niño hostigado no es el dueño casa, no por eso se deje estar. Mañana podrá ser su hijo el invitado a otra casa y que le pase lo mismo. Aproveche para enseñar los valores en los cuales usted cree. Conozca a sus amigos. Permítale al niño apropiarse de su casa y de disfrutar de estar en ella, sin necesidad de salir corriendo a llevarlos a un lugar de comida rápida, parque de diversiones, etc. Sí, habrá peleas. Déles la oportunidad de que los mismos sean resueltos por ellos, y sino intervenga sin ponerse del lado de ninguno, pero hasta que no aprendan a jugar juntos, no se retoma el juego.Si vienen a su casa, no los enchufe frente a una TV, la TV impide el dialogo entre los chicos (claro que resulta más cómodo), no corren , no pelean, no nada….pero no le esta permitiendo jugar, crear, divertirse.Si usted tiene una casa chica, grande, como sea: quiérela, compártala, vívala. De esa manera su hijo tomara el gusto de estar en ella. En general en las casas hay una pelota, lápices de colores, algún juego de caja, autitos, lo que sea. Aprendan a estar en casa sin TV, a conversar, a compartir, y esto se vera reflejado el día de mañana cuando Ud. no tenga que llamar a su hijo para conversar de sexo, sino que desde chico, hubo dialogo entre Uds.
